Shaping Tomorrow

Our Vision & History

Our Vision

To prevent addiction among youth in lower economic classes by providing a range of wholesome activities and counselling to engage them and restore healthy behaviours. The more long term vision is that mental health is improved, and that youth feel hopeful for their future and thrive. The social fabric that has been torn apart by high addiction rates is repaired and restored.

Our History

The history of Manoday is deeply rooted in its founders’ experiences of community work and the issues that came to light while working with the informal waste sector in Pune. It became clear that addiction was destroying financial stability and health both physical and mental and leading to violence and a fragmentation of the social fabric of low income communities. Manoday was formed to mitigate some of the conditions and provide much needed help support and attention to the issue of addiction

What We Do

Our Key Activities & Events

At Manoday, we create safe, positive environments for youth in underserved communities to heal, learn, and grow. Our programs focus on addiction prevention, mental well-being, and personal development through interactive and engaging formats

Community Based Approach

Historically addiction has been viewed from an individual point of view rather than an issue germinating socially. Manoday’s intervention therefore begins here at the community level: We help repair the community with everyday engagement with the residents, develop a rapport with them and provide a safe and education-filled space for the youth. Such a community approach to addiction is less tested yet we are convinced that working

Prevention

As per statistics remission within addicts is as high as 95% and therefore an approach to halt addiction before onset should be considered seriously. Unfortunately, very little “addiction work” focuses on prevention. In communities where addiction at the household level is as high as 75%, addiction should be seen as inevitable unless prevention is prioritized. At manoday 70% of our work focuses on prevention.

Monitoring & Evaluation

We can never be sure that intervention is working unless we are monitoring and evaluating our progress. We have baseline and 6 month tests to ensure we are reaching our goal. We have developed tests that are suitable for a low income test taker and which is culturally relevant.

Policy Advocacy

The impact of our approach will only be stronger once we are able to scale it. We believe advocacy for better regulations and enforcement of those regulations, budgetary allocation for prevention work in the community will help expand the work we are doing.
